Solid overnight rain has sent the Warwick Farm track rating into the heavy range for Saturday’s meeting.

Warwick Farm track manager James Cataldo said 26 mm fell at Warwick Farm in the last 24 hours, sending the track rating south to a heavy (8).

“It’s down into the heavy range now and the penetrometer is 5.90,” Cataldo said.

“I’m walking the track at the moment with Lindsay Murphy and it feels alright under foot, it’s not squelchy.

“Looking on the radar we might have a bit of luck. The rain seems to be breaking up and going around us but we’ll see how we go.”

The Bureau Of Meteorology forecast for the rest of Friday in the Liverpool area is a cloudy day with the rain easing to isolated showers by early evening. The predicted top temperature is a cool 21 degrees.

Saturday’s prediction is for a partly cloudy day with the chance of an isolated shower and a warmer 27 degrees.

The rail at Warwick Farm will be in the two-metre position.

Meanwhile, Canterbury has been downgraded to a heavy (9) for Friday night’s meeting due to the 35 mm of rain recorded overnight.

Down on the NSW South Coast, 29 mm fell at Kembla in the past 24 hours and the rating for Saturday’s provincial meeting has also been downgraded to a heavy (9).
