Hong Kong agent Willie Leung, who 24 hours prior paid $650,000 NZ for another High Chaparral colt, paid $800,000 NZ for the High Chaparral colt out of the Nuclear Freeze mare, La Souvenir.
La Souvenir, a winner at 1400 metres, is a half-sister to So You Think.
Spirited bidding on the striking bay colt kicked off at $200,000 NZ before Leung landed the final blow.
In 2008, So You Think went through the same sales ring when Duncan Ramage of DGR Thoroughbred Services paid $110,000 NZ on behalf of Dato Tan Chin Nam.
Under the training of Australian racing’s living legend Bart Cummings, So You Think went on to win back-to-back Cox Plates before a controlling interest in the stallion was sold to Coolmore Stud.
The horse then ventured to Europe where he has added another three Group I wins to his resume. Now trained by Aidan O’Brien, So You Think is the early favourite for the Dubai World Cup in March.
