Gold Coast Turf Club receives upgrade funding

The Gold Coast Turf Club and Racing Queensland has been given a $35 million grant from the State Government to redevelop the race course. The funds have become available after the two bodies have signed a heads of agreement. The money will provide funds for projects including refurbishment of existing facilities and an upgrade of the track.

Brett Cook, Chairman of the Gold Coast Turf Club, said that the project would cement the club’s position as one of Queensland’s premier tracks.

Cook said “The funding will grant will mean Bundall’s racing, members and training facilities will receive a significant upgrade to take the racing facility to a metropolitan standard.”

“The long term contract between the owners of the Magic Millions and Events Queensland, coupled with the upgrade to the trace and facilities, would further enhance racing on the Gold Coast and significantly increase its overall appeal.”

Bob Bentley, Chairman of Racing Queensland, said that he was delighted with the outcome of the negotiations.

Bently said “This has been a long process and a lot of compromise between both parties has made this possible including RQL deciding against seeking equity in the club.”
